How to help those hurt by Hurricane Harvey

Cash donations can help those participating in relief efforts in the areas affected by Hurricane Harvey.

• To donate to the American Red Cross, go to www.redcross.org, call 1-800-RED CROSS or text the word HARVEY to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

• To donate to the Salvation Army, go to www.givesalvationarmy.org or call 1-800-725-2769.

• To donate to Catholic Charities USA, go to www.catholiccharitiesusa.org.

Coast Guard personnel have been deployed from Port Angeles and other areas to aid in Hurricane Harvey relief efforts in Texas.

Coast Guard personnel from Air Station Port Angeles, Sector Columbia River in Warrenton, Ore., Sector Puget Sound and the 13th District have been deployed in response to the hurricane, the Coast Guard said in a news release Monday.

One MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter has been deployed from Sector Columbia River to Air Station San Diego, Calif., to help in covering Coast Guard missions as San Diego aircraft have been deployed to provide hurricane response support in Texas.

The Coast Guard has rescued more than 1,450 people as a result of the hurricane impact, the agency reported Monday.

The Coast Guard has 20 helicopters in the region conducting rescue operations along with crews on land and water working with state and local response personnel.

Additional personnel from the Pacific Northwest are on standby to provide support as response efforts require.
