PORT TOWNSEND — Affordable housing and family wage jobs will be discussed at a town meeting tonight.
The town meeting — the city’s third of the year — will be at 6:30 p.m. at Fort Worden in the McCurdy Pavilion in Fort Worden State Park.
The discussion topics are “the toughest and possibly the most important” issues the city is facing, said City Planner Rick Sepler.
“Housing and jobs are issues which are essential to be a real community.
“If we want to avoid gentrification, if we don’t want to become homogeneous, we need to address them.”
Mayor Michelle Sandoval said she also viewed this meeting as crucial.
“A lot of people are dismayed by the cost of houses in town and are wondering what they can do,” sandoval said.
“People also want to know why government is getting involved with that.
“We want to talk about it.”
The meeting will follow the same format as the two before it: a presentation, followed by small group discussions led by facilitators.
