Port Angeles will lose its only scheduled airline passenger service following the last flight of the evening Jan. 6.
Saying it is losing money on the route, Horizon Air will stop flying between Seattle and Port Angeles.
The January pullout will leave an empty passenger terminal at William R. Fairchild International Airport.
Port of Port Angeles officials have begun contacting other airlines to gauge their interest in serving Port Angeles, Port Executive Director Clyde Boddy said.
The Port operates the airport.
Boddy said he also has talked with the members of the Clallam County Economic Development Council, Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce and the city of Port Angeles about setting up a task force to package a sales pitch for other airlines.
Horizon Air flew only to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport from Port Angeles. It offered the only regularly scheduled service between that city and Clallam and Jefferson counties.
Airline officials said they are stopping Port Angeles service after Jan. 6 because the four daily roundtrip flights average only 44 percent full, well below Horizon’s system-wide average of 63 percent.
