SHINE – The Hood Canal Bridge will be open tonight and early Saturday morning.
A six-hour closure originally set to begin at 11 p.m. tonight and extend through 5 a.m Saturday morning has been canceled.
The next overnight closures are expected to resume in April, but no date has been set as yet, according to Doug Adamson, state Department of Transportation spokesman.
Weather concerns prompted the cancellation, he said.
Instead, the bridge will operate as normal. The span will remain open to traffic subject to typical closures for marine vessels.
The overnight closures are to allow crews to rebuild and replace the internal mechanics of the draw span.
Overnight closures began last Saturday.
The $5.2 million maintenance project — which was awarded to Northbank Civil and Marine Inc. in October — is expected to be completed this fall.
Crews will replace or rebuild the mechanical devices that open and close the bridge, replace the hydraulic hoses and fluid and adjust the wheels that allow portions of the bridge to move.
