SHINE — The Hood Canal Bridge has reopened for vehicular traffic after it was closed for repair of the barrier along the eastbound shoulder Wednesday.
The link between Jefferson and Kitsap counties on state Highway 104 was closed at about 2 p.m. for the emergency repair, the state Department of Transportation said. It reopened a little before 3 p.m.
The bridge was closed briefly at 4 p.m. to check that the functioning of the drawspan was not affected by debris that had fallen into the workings and which was cleaned out.
A large vehicle damaged the barrier overnight Tuesday, according to Trooper Chelsea Hodgson, State Patrol spokesperson, on Wednesday. She said the State Patrol is investigating the collision as a hit-and-run, based on the damage observed this morning.
