OLYMPIA — The oft-delayed preliminary audit of the state Department of Transportation’s Hood Canal Bridge graving yard project is due for public release June 2 at a meeting of the state Transportation Performance Audit Board.
That will be the first peek at a report, requested by state Rep. Jim Buck, R-Joyce, that is expected to detail circumstances and costs behind the graving yard project on the Port Angeles waterfront that was halted in December 2004.
Following comments on the preliminary report by the audit board and numerous state agencies, the final report is scheduled for public release June 30.
The audit board was given the schedule during a Wednesday morning conference call for the long-awaited analysis of how Transportation spent an estimated $86.8 million on the Port Angeles project that was canceled because burials and artifacts from an ancient Native American village were found.
Transportation Secretary Doug MacDonald is scheduled to release his agency’s own analysis of the project during next week’s meeting of the state Transportation Commission.
