Homeward Bound trust to reorganize; meetings set this week

Homeward Bound Community Land Trust will host informational meetings in Port Angeles and Port Townsend this week as the nonprofit prepares to reorganize.

The agency, which has served Jefferson and Clallam counties since 2005, will reorganize and elect new officers at 6 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Road, according to a press release.

Informational meetings about Homeward Bound and the Community Trust program will precede that meeting this week.

To become a member of Homeward Bound and to be eligible to vote at the Oct. 4 meeting, a person must have attended one of the informational meetings, except for those who have attended one previously.

People interested in running for a seat on the board must attend.

The meetings are at:

• 6 p.m. today — Elwha Heritage Center, 401 E. First St, at intersection with Peabody Street in Port Angeles.

• 6 p.m. Wednesday — Port Townsend Senior Center, 620 Tyler St.

Visitors also will be told about the Homeward Bound project now underway on Cherry Street in Port Townsend.

The remodeling project is an apartment building that was moved from Victoria to Port Townsend in May. When completed the building will provide eight units of permanently affordable rental housing.

The speaker will be Julie Brunner of the OPAL (Of People and Land) Community Land Trust on Orcas Island.

Brunner has more than 20 years in the community land trust field as an executive and a trainer.
