CHIMACUM — The brush fire on Beaver Valley Road has been contained and evacuations have been canceled, East Jefferson Fire Rescue announced on its Facebook page.
State Highway 19 will remain closed until about midnight, firefighters said.
Command has been transferred to the state Department of Natural Resources and mop up will continue through the night.
No injuries or major property damage were reported, firefighters said.
The cause of the fire, which burned 10-to-12 acres was unknown Tuesday evening.
Residents of about six homes had been told to evacuate due to the brush fire off state Highway 19 near Pleat Plank Road in Chimacum.
Both lanes of the highway were closed Tuesday afternoon as crews from East Jefferson Fire Rescue battled the blaze.
Winds were blowing at about 10 to 15 mph moving to the south and east, said Bret Black, East Jefferson Fire Rescue chief.
The Jefferson County Emergency Operations Center said the area was between Templet Drive and Tall Tree Lane.
Washington State Patrol spokesperson Katherine Weatherwax said troopers were on site to assist.
Also assisting were Quilcene Fire Rescue, North Kitsap Fire & Rescue, Poulsbo Fire Department, Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue, South Kitsap Fire and Rescue, Bremerton Firefighters, Discovery Bay Fire, Naval Magazine Indian Island, and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
