PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Fire Department is investigating the cause of a fire at U.S. Highway 101 and Airport Road.
No injuries were reported in the Sunday night blaze at the vacant home in the 1700 block of Highway 101 at 9:12 p.m.
Fire officials said the home was already planned for demolition before the blaze.
Nine personnel from Port Angeles Fire Department responded initially with mutual aid from Clallam County Fire District 2.
Highway 101 was blocked while lines were deployed, said fire officials. It was declared contained at approximately 9:35 p.m.
Officials said the fire was largely extinguished but “due to the fire load, building instability and inability to access sections of the structure,” it was expected to smolder for the next 24 hours.
