PORT ANGELES — Residents escaped a house fire at West Sixth Street and Cherry Street, but the home was destroyed and a dog died, the Port Angeles Fire Department said.
Firefighters were dispatched about 8:54 p.m. Friday following multiple reports of a structure fire and visible flames, the fire department reported.
Neighbors were concerned that one person and a pet were inside the home, the fire department said.
Fire crews entered and determined there were no people inside. They located the dog and attempted resuscitation efforts, which were unsuccessful, the fire department said.
Firefighters removed various items at the request of the homeowner, protecting them from further smoke damage, the fire department said.
Crews contained the fire to the house, preventing it from spreading to adjacent homes.
A total of 20 personnel responded to the incident, the fire department said. They included eight career staff from the Port Angeles Fire Department, two career staff from Clallam County Fire District 2, two from Olympic Ambulance, six volunteers from both PAFD and CCFD2, as well as the Clallam County medical director and a chief officer from the city fire department.
The Port Angeles Police Department and City Light also responded, the fire department said.
Valuation of the property and content losses will be determined following an investigation, the fire department said.
