PORT ANGELES — Two of the most famous aircraft of World War II are returning to William R. Fairchild International Airport this week for three days of tours and flights.
The Collings Foundation “Wings of Freedom” tour features the only fully restored and flying B-24 Liberator and one of only nine airworthy B-17 Flying Fortresses.
The aircraft will be available for tours and flights from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday. Tours will cost $8 for adults and $4 for children younger than 12.
Those wanting a 30-minute flight can reserve a spot with a $400 tax-deductible donation to the Collings Foundation.
The nationwide tour, which visits 120 cities in 10 months, recorded the most visitors of any of its West Coast stops when the airplanes visited Port Angeles in June 2003.
