MOUNT WASHINGTON — A Port Angeles Coast Guard helicopter crew plucked a 48-year-old woman from Mount Washington in Mason County after she was hit by a rock.
The injured woman was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle at about 6:15 p.m. Saturday.
Because the Coast Guard did not have the woman’s name, her condition was not available from Harborview on Sunday.
The Coast Guard said the woman was hiking above 4,200 feet on Mount Washington when a falling rock hit her head and caused her to tumble 30 feet off the trail.
It was not known who called rescuers Saturday, but a cell phone was used to phone the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.
The Coast Guard was contacted when rescuers determined that the MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Group/Air Station Port Angeles would be the most effective form of rescue.
Mount Washington is a 6,260-foot-tall peak in the the Mount Skokomish Wilderness of Olympic National Forest, just north of Lake Cushman.
