CLALLAM BAY — State Highway 112 was closed for about three hours Sunday after a man crashed a pickup into a guardrail near Clallam Bay and fled on foot, the State Patrol said.
Trooper Chelsea Hodgson, State Patrol spokeswoman, said the driver crashed a 1981 Ford F-250 into a guardrail just south of Clallam Bay at about 8:39 p.m.
Witnesses observed the man exit the vehicle and flee the scene, Hodgson said.
State Patrol troopers, fire units and a Clallam County sheriff’s deputy were unable to locate the driver, Hodgson said.
The driver was not identified, Clallam County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ed Anderson said.
“The abandoned, damaged vehicle was impounded,” Hodgson said.
The collision occurred in the westbound lane.
State Highway 112 was closed at milepost 18 near the Clallam River at 8:44 p.m., the state Department of Transportation said.
Troopers cleared the scene at 11:01 p.m, Hodgson said. The highway was reopened by 11:45 p.m., Department of Transportation officials said.
