PORT ANGELES — State Highway 112 will remain closed to all traffic east of Pysht at least through the weekend, the state Department of Transportation said.
Progress to replace a culvert that carries Joe Creek under the highway has been slower than anticipated, and the original reopening date of this Thursday has been extended, the department said.
Highway 112 has been closed since Sept. 8.
Local access is maintained up to about 100 feet on both sides of Joe Creek, at which point the highway is closed to all traffic, including emergency responders.
Motorists are being detoured around the closure via state Highway 113 and U.S. Highway 101.
A specific reopening time and date will be provided as the culvert-replacement project continues, the department said.
After the highway reopens to traffic, motorists might still encounter daytime single-lane closures with alternating traffic.
The total roadway closure is allowing crews to replace an outdated and undersized culvert that poses a barrier for fish.
