PORT ANGELES — U.S. Highway 101 traffic will not be moved onto a detour east of Port Angeles as planned Saturday morning, the state Department of Transportation announced Friday.
Both directions of the highway were scheduled to be moved onto a short four-lane bypass to allow crews to install an underpass for a Clallam County road that will connect Deer Park Road and Buchanan Drive.
County officials had warned that the switch depended upon the weather.
Weather permitting, the highway will be reduced to one lane in each direction at 7 p.m. next Friday, Feb. 21. and reopen in its new configuration the following Saturday morning on Feb. 22.
The revision will be in place for up to 90 days.
The 45 mph speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph while the detour is in place.
State officials say motorists can expect single-lane closures in both directions during the day next week as crews stripe the connections onto the detour.
