Strong winds that blew out electrical power for more than 64,000 customers east of the North Olympic Peninsula caused a brief closure of the Hood Canal Bridge and scattered outages on the east side of Jefferson County.
The Hood Canal Bridge was closed to vehicular traffic in both directions for a little more than an hour Tuesday morning — from about 10:45 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. — because of high winds, the state Department of Transportation said.
The Jefferson County Public Utility District reported scattered outages Tuesday morning along the eastern shorelines of the district.
Power outages
The Seattle Times reported that utilities had thousands of power outages in King, Pierce, Snohomish and Whatcom counties Tuesday morning.
Winter storm warnings were issued for the Cascade and Olympic mountains above 3,500 feet, according to The Associated Press.
The National Weather Service said people should expect difficult travel conditions with gusty winds and snow and compact ice on roadways.
