The first snow of the season that fell across much of the North Olympic Peninsula by midday Sunday has given way to warmer temperatures and gusty winds.
The National Weather Service on Sunday night said wind gusts of up to 70 mph could hit areas from Forks to Hood Canal as daytime temperatures rise to 50 degrees in lower elevations.
And this could continue into Tuesday.
Warming temperatures caused the Weather Service to issue a flood watch for river basins in lower elevations of the Peninsula, particularly on the southwest and south sides.
An average of about 4 to 5 inches of snow fell on lower elevations of the North Olympic Peninsula overnight, said Carl Cerniglia, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Seattle.
