PORT ANGELES — Members of the public will get the first of two chances to comment on a draft $3.7 million North Olympic Library System budget during a library board of trustees meeting tonight.
The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Raymond Carver meeting room at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.
Library trustees will vote on the 2014 proposed budget after a second public hearing at their Nov. 25 meeting, which will start at 4 p.m. in the Port Angeles Library.
5 percent less than ’13
The proposed 2014 budget is about $197,000, or roughly 5 percent, less than the library system’s 2013 budget of $3.9 million, according to a library system staff report.
The reduction is due mostly to declining property tax revenues, according to the report.
The proposed budget spends 10 percent more on books and other library materials compared with the 2013 document, according to the report, bringing the total 2014 materials budget to $440,575, not including funds to be requested from nonprofit library friends’ groups.
The North Olympic Library System manages libraries in Port Angeles, Sequim, Clallam Bay and Forks.
