There’s no crab, oyster or clam harvesting permitted, but fish are not adversely affected by the millions of pounds of raw sewage that entered Port Angeles Harbor earlier this week.
But people should avoid contaminated water.
The Port Angeles Halibut Derby is on Saturday and Sunday, one of the largest fishing contests in the state.
The Clallam County Department of Health and Human Services recommended that halibut anglers and other boaters wash their hands frequently with soap or antibacterial hand sanitizer.
“We also recommend a clothing change when boaters return ashore if clothing becomes soaked with seawater,” Andy Brastad, environmental health director, said Thursday.
Clothing should be laundered, and boating gear and apparel such as waders should be thoroughly rinsed and air dried, he said
Beaches — and shellfish harvesting — from Crescent Beach to Dungeness Spit will remain closed at least until June 1.
