PORT TOWNSEND — The Jefferson County Household Hazardous Waste Facility will no longer be open on Saturdays after Aug. 6.
The change is based on low customer demand for Saturday service; the facility will continue to operate on Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon and from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The facility, located at building 19 in the Port Townsend Boat Haven, 282 10th St., provides free disposal of household hazardous wastes for residents of Jefferson County; disposal fees may apply for business and out-of-county residents.
The facility accepts products that contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable or reactive ingredients, such as oil-based paints, cleaners, oils, batteries and pesticides.
Improper disposal of these items can pollute the environment and pose a threat to human health.
Appointments can be made for large loads, drummed wastes and eligible business hazardous wastes by calling 360-379-6911 or 360-385-9160.
