BRISK SALES OVER the weekend added to a rush of sales today have risen the jackpot for tonight’s Mega Millions lottery to $355 million, the second-highest prize in the game’s history.
The game, in which five numbers and a six Mega Ball number must be matched, is played in Washington, 40 other states and the District of Columbia.
Since the last jackpot was won in early November, the winnings have rolled over in the twice-weekly game to tonight’s total, which is the largest in 3½ years and is within $45 million of the all-time North American record. The drawing is at 8 p.m. PST.
The $355 million would be paid over 26 years, or the winner has the option of a lump sum payout of about $224.2 million. Multiple winners divide the prize.
