PORT ANGELES — The Harbor-Works Public Development Authority selected a permanent executive director Friday after five hours of closed door interviews with four candidates, but did not identify him.
The five-member Harbor-Works Board of Directors unanimously chose a man referred to only as “Candidate A” shortly after 1 p.m. during open session.
Candidate A will be offered the job, budgeted at $144,000 a year, likely within the next 24 hours, said Orville Campbell, board chairman, after the meeting.
The board declined to identify any of the candidates or comment on their professional background.
The board decided not to set a proposed salary range to offer to Candidate A at the meeting.
Campbell would only go as far as to say Candidate A — like the board’s second choice, “Candidate D” — is a man, and lives in Washington state.
A committee made up of board members Howie Ruddell and Karen McCormick, and Port Angeles Human Resources Director Bob Coons will negotiate a contract with Candidate A that will be brought to the entire board for approval likely within seven to 10 days.
Former Port of Port Angeles Executive Director Clyde Boddy is currently serving as Harbor-Works’ second interim executive director.
Port Angeles Deputy Mayor Betsy Wharton and port Commissioner George Schoenfeldt participated in the interviews. Coons was also present during the interviews.
