PORT TOWNSEND — It is All Hallows Eve, and the students of Mystic Moon School will travel up a winding dirt road to a small building in the woods.
There, they will put on masks and celebrate solemn rites as old as the stones of the circle marked on the ground outside.
For on the school calendar, it is not just the final day of October.
It is the eve of a new year, a crack in time between the old and the new, a time when the veil between the seen and the unseen is very thin.
“It’s the most sacred, holy of our holidays,” said Miria Liguana.
“I feel more connected to the past, present and future than any other time of year.”
Liguana is one of the founders and teachers of the Mystic Moon School of
Magic and Witchcraft, which will celebrate Samhain (pronounced “Sow-en”) tonight at its temple in the woods.
Now in its second term, the school was founded last summer by Liguana and Aurora Greenbough.
