OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — Guardrail installation is scheduled to begin on the east end of the U.S. Highway 101 rehabilitation project Monday.
The work on the highway around Lake Crescent will begin between milepost 232 at East Beach Road and milepost 228 at Barnes Point.
A pilot car will guide traffic within work areas with alternating lanes. Drivers are asked to watch for the pilot car and flaggers controlling traffic.
Starting Monday, work hours are restricted to two hours after sunrise to two hours before sunset.
Drivers should expect up to half-hour delays each direction during weekday work hours — about 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. — and slower travel times through the work zone, said Penny Wagner, Olympic National Park spokeswoman.
Drivers should be aware of flaggers before start time setting up signs and equipment, she said.
Strider Construction Inc. of Bellingham is the contractor for the $27.5 million project to rehabilitate 12 miles of highway around the lake. The final phase of the three-year project began last week.
Major work in this final phase will include completing the guardrail installation, restoring the road width around milepost 229, paving the final 2½ inches of driving surface and striping.
