Peninsula Housing Authority groundbreaking for 10 new homes

Event set for 5 p.m. today on West 11th Street

PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula Housing Authority Mutual Self–Help Housing Program will host a groundbreaking celebration for 10 more new homes at 5 p.m. today.

The celebration will be at 1730 W. 11th St. The public is encouraged to attend.

This program helps working families achieve home-ownership is a sweat equity program sponsored by the Peninsula Housing Authority (PHA).

Participants in this process will build not only homes for their families but also for a community. Group members will work together on constructing all of the houses, not just their own.

In lieu of a down payment, they will contribute 65 percent of the labor to complete each home by providing a minimum of 32 hours per week for about a year.

All 10 families will work together under the supervision of a construction supervisor, the PHA said in a press release.

In keeping with the theme of building a neighborhood, no one will move in until all of the homes are completed.

To date, the PHA has assisted in the construction of over 100 homes in Clallam and Jefferson counties, the PHA said.

USDA Rural Development loans are based on a household’s adjusted income, and participants may receive subsidized interest rates.
