Graduations for Peninsula College, Port Angeles and Sequim high schools this weekend

PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College and Port Angeles and Sequim high schools will conduct graduation ceremonies this weekend.

The two high school commencements will be tonight. Peninsula College’s graduation ceremony will be Saturday.

Sequim High School’s graduation ceremony begins at 6 p.m. in the school’s stadium at 601 N. Sequim Ave.

About 201 will participate in graduation ceremonies.

The Port Angeles High School commencement will begin at 8 p.m. in the main gymnasium at 304 E. Park Ave.

Set to receive diplomas are 220 seniors. Three student speakers are scheduled: Jacob Dostie, Kari Kenyon and Brianna Mingori.

A ticket is required to attend both the Sequim and Port Angeles graduations. They are free, distributed by graduating seniors.

More than 500

Peninsula College will award more than 500 degrees and certificates to graduates at its 49th commencement ceremony Saturday.

Commencement exercises will be at 2 p.m. in the college gymnasium on the main campus in Port Angeles, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., with a reception following immediately.

The keynote speaker will be Port Townsend Mayor Michelle Sandoval, who is serving her third term on the Port Townsend City Council and who is a co-owner of Windermere Real Estate in Port Townsend.

The student speaker will be Carlos Estrada of Forks, who was born in Mexico to immigrant parents who moved to Forks and who is now a member of the 2011 All-Washington Academic Team.

The state award is given to students for scholastic achievement and service to their communities and colleges and recognizes top scholars from community and technical colleges across the state.

When Estrada graduated from high school as valedictorian, he gave his speech in both English and Spanish.

He plans to transfer to the University of Washington to study engineering and hopes to pursue a law degree at a later time.

Lincoln High School, an alternative high school in the Port Angeles School District, has scheduled commencement ceremonies for 23 graduates at 6 p.m. Monday in the Peninsula College Little Theater, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Clallam Bay and Crescent high school commencements were last Saturday, as were those for Port Townsend, Chimacum and Quilcene high schools.

Forks and Neah Bay high schools’ ceremonies were June 4.

Photographs of high school scholarship recipients and lists of graduating seniors will be in the Peninsula Daily News’ Students of Distinction special edition Sunday, June 26.
