PORT TOWNSEND — Appointed Jefferson County Superior Court Clerk Ruth Gordon held an almost 7 percent lead over her challenger Tammi Rubert in the county’s Democratic primary election Tuesday.
With 8,946 ballots, or 42.34 percent, counted by the election’s 8 p.m. close Tuesday, Democratic primary voters left Gordon leading Rubert 4,009 to 3,497, or 53.34 to 46.53 percent.
The next vote count is expected this Friday of uncounted ballots and those postmarked by Tuesday.
Should Gordon maintain her position as the top vote-getter in the clerk’s Democratic primary, she goes unopposed to the Nov. 8 general election because no Republican ran for the office that pays about $50,000 a year.
