PORT ANGELES — The first five of 25 massive girders for the Eighth Street bridge over Valley Creek will begin arriving on Wednesday.
The arrival of the girders will require temporary closure of Cedar and Valley streets, and interruptions to traffic on Marine Drive and other nearby streets.
“The first three will arrive between 7 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. and the other two between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.,” said Teresa Pierce, Port Angeles city spokeswoman.
“So there will be a little more traffic disruption downtown than with the Tumwater Creek bridge girders,” she said, referring to the delivery of those girders in April.
“Hopefully they can squeeze through before lunch time.”
Parsons RCI Inc. of Sumner is replacing the two timber trestle bridges along West Eighth Street with concrete ones in an $18.4 million project.
The old Tumwater Creek bridge closed in August 2007, followed by the Valley Creek bridge in September 2007.
The new bridges are expected to openlate this year.
