Giant plume near Pysht is controlled burn

Callers from Victoria and throughout Clallam County to authorities, news media and other destinations wondered about the big plume of smoke west of Port Angeles.

It’s a permitted controlled burn by Merrill & Ring Pysht Properties LLC on the company’s lands near Pysht, about 25 miles west of Port Angeles.

Here’s how the plume looked around 5 p.m. from Ediz Hook in Port Angeles Harbor.
