PORT ANGELES — A task force of business and local government representatives met privately with Port of Port Angeles officials Monday to discuss how to recruit a new air carrier to fly between Port Angeles and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
To replace Horizon Air, the task force will study acquiring “Essential Air Service” funding, a federal Department of Transportation program that subsidizes air passenger service in remote communities.
Despite already having a commuter airline that wants to fly from Port Angeles to Seattle’s Boeing Field, “the task force feels it’s very important to continue the level of service directly into Sea-Tac,” said Jim Haguewood, Clallam County Economic Development Council executive director, in a briefing after the meeting.
The task force must meet behind closed-doors — without the public or media — with Port officials because the Port is discussing proprietary business matters, Haguewood said.
The Port operates Port Angeles’ William R. Fairchild International Airport.
