PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Garden Club has announced donations to several organizations through its educational grant program.
The recipients include:
• Clallam Conservation District, $1,500 to fund transportation of public school students to the district’s native planting events.
The grant will allow the district to bus Dry Creek Elementary students to a beach restoration planting at Ediz Hook, giving them an opportunity to take part in hands-on conservation efforts.
• Welfare for Animals Guild, $1,500 to provide spay and neuter services at the guild’s free veterinary clinics.
• Adam Logan, $450 to construct a French drain to prevent flooding at the greenhouse at Port Angeles High School.
Logan’s environmental class will be responsible for designing the project.
• Barb Silva, $600 to purchase a shade sail, canopy and other supplies for the Crescent School Garden.
Silva, a Crescent School teacher, helps students to plant and maintain the school garden.
• Sarah Schaefermeyer, $700 to purchase materials for a greenhouse watering system, mulch, vegetable seeds and soil for the gardening program at Franklin Elementary School.
• Raena Young, $500 to obtain ingredients and supplies to support growing, preparing and exploring new flavors from fresh vegetables at Jefferson Elementary School.
Funds for the Port Angeles Garden Club’s Educational Grant Program are raised through the club’s annual holiday wreath sales and its annual plant sale.
