PORT TOWNSEND — A garage fire late Saturday destroyed a huge vinyl album collection the owners said was worth $100,000.
The fire was discovered at about 10:30 p.m. in a detached garage on the 600 block of Crutcher Road near Port Townsend, according to Bill Beezley, spokesman for East Jefferson Fire-Rescue.
Firefighters from the department arrived to find a 500-square-foot detached garage fully engulfed in flames.
Homeowners told firefighters there was no one in the building, but the garage contained a collection of about 20,000 vinyl albums worth an estimated $100,000, Beezley said.
The owners did not have insurance for the collection, he said.
A lack of fire hydrants in the area made it difficult for the department to knock down the blaze.
Beezley said water tenders from neighboring fire districts were called in to supplement the supply of water on hand.
Engine 91 from Naval Magazine Indian Island and units from Port Ludlow Fire & Rescue, Quilcene Fire Rescue, Jefferson County Fire District No. 5 and Brinnon Fire Department responded to assist with the fire.
With the combined efforts of the departments, the fire was brought under control at about 11:10 p.m. There were no injuries.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation Sunday, but is not believed to be suspicious, Beezley said.
