FORKS — Spill responders have stopped fuel from leaking from an overturned fuel truck on U.S. Highway 101 about 25 miles south of Forks.
The state Department of Ecology said earlier in a news release that the wreck “caused an unknown amount of fuel to get into a seasonal tributary” of Fletcher Creek.
Whether fuel has reached the tributary has not been determined, clarified Ecology spokeswoman Kim Schmanke later.
As much as 3,500 gallons of fuel leaked from the truck, Schmanke said.
The vehicle was carrying about 10,000 gallons, said State Patrol spokeswoman Trooper Krista Hedstrom this morning.
Fletcher Creek flows into the Hoh River.
The truck overturned at about 9:45 a.m.
The cause is unknown, the State Patrol said today. The driver wasn’t injured.
One-way, alternating traffic is making it through the area using the southbound lane.
Ecology, State Patrol, Hoh and Quileute tribes and Cowlitz Clean Sweep have responded to the scene.
