PORT ANGELES — A two-vehicle wreck at Front and Alder streets in Port Angeles snarled afternoon traffic for miles Tuesday.
Port Angeles Deputy Chief of Police Brian Smith said two people were injured in the collision. Their names or the extent of their injuries was not immediately available, he said.
“It was basically one car rear-ended the other,” Smith said.
The wreck occurred shortly before 1:30 p.m. in front of the Port Angeles Days Inn at 1510 E. Front St.
Although the vehicles were moved off to the left shoulder, the medics, city police and fire crews at the scene contributed to a backup that extended down Front Street to the westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 101 in unincorporated Clallam County.
“Their presence causes everyone to slow down,” Smith said.
“Traffic was backed up past Walmart.”
Smith said both vehicles — a red Ford Ranger and a silver Ford Ranger with a Baxter business decal on its side — were damaged.
An airbag was deployed in the red pickup, which appeared to have struck the silver pickup at the rear.
The silver pickup had broken glass in its rear panel.
