Friday dinner to highlight Port Angeles School District programs

PORT ANGELES — State Rep. Mike Chapman will discuss legislative issues pertaining to local education at the Port Angeles Education Foundation’s 26th annual Celebrate Education dinner and fundraiser Friday.

Reservations are due Monday for the dinner at the Red Lion Hotel, 221 N. Lincoln St., Port Angeles. Social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $75 per person and include a choice of pork loin, salmon, flank steak or a vegetarian entree.

Reservations can be made online at www.portangeles educationfoundation.org or by phoning Nola Grier, administrative director at 360-452-8848.

The evening’s program will feature students from Roosevelt Elementary School’s law and governance project, which is directly supported by a School &Teacher Grant from the Port Angeles Education Foundation, as well as guest speaker Chapman, a Democrat from Port Angeles.

“Our local public schools, teachers and students deserve celebration, and we invite our community to join us in both celebrating and supporting them,” said Christopher Riffle, president of the Port Angeles Education Foundation board.

“We are grateful to Rep. Chapman for his participation in this event. His remarks will be especially meaningful for members of the law and governance project.”

Entertainment will be provided by the Vocal Unlimited choral ensemble from Port Angeles High School, led by director and choir teacher Jolene Dalton-Gailey.

The foundation’s Distinguished Service Award will be presented to a community member whose volunteer work enhances the education of students in the district.

Last year’s honoree was Tom Swanson of Port Angeles, who created the Pathways to Prosperity scholarship, then rode his bicycle from Port Angeles to his hometown of Panama, N.Y., raising more than $76,000.

An opportunity to donate directly to the foundation’s School &Teacher Grant fund will be provided following the program. During the current 2016-17 school year, the Port Angeles Education Foundation awarded 29 grants totaling $39,950 to the Port Angeles School District.

Payment or donations can be made by credit card online or by check to P.O. Box 787, Port Angeles, WA 98362.

The Port Angeles Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that fosters support for students and programs by promoting creativity, innovation and excellence in partnership with Port Angeles public schools.
