Free ‘Music in the Park’ in Sequim tonight. Other outdoor concerts in Port Angeles, Fort Flagler this week

SEQUIM — Ranger and the Re-Arrangers, a gypsy jazz band, will perform at the outdoor James Center for the Performing Arts amphitheater at the Sequim Water Reuse Park, 563 N. Rhodefer Road, just north of Carrie Blake Park, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. tonight.

This free, family-friendly concert kicks off the city of Sequim’s Music in the Park series at the James Center every Tuesday at 6 p.m. through Aug. 28.

Pack up a picnic dinner, bring a lawn chair or a blanket (seating is not provided) to the grassy expanse in front of the amphitheater — and don’t forget your sunglasses if it’s sunny, or a wool coat if there’s a cold breeze.

After tonight’s opener, the schedule of Music in the Park concerts includes a diverse mix of bands plus a karaoke contest in July. The lineup:

■ July 3: Dixieland jazz with the Dukes of Dabob.

■ July 10: Rhythm and blues with the Mark Whitman Band.

■ July 17: Rock with Bound to Happen.

■ July 24: “Karaoke Idol” contest, open to singers 13 and older. Applications available now on the city of Sequim website, www.SequimWA.gov and at City Hall, 152 W. Cedar St.

Deadline is 4 p.m. July 12, and the first 20 individuals or groups will be scheduled to perform.

■ July 31: Latin guitar and world fusion with Cascada.

■ Aug. 7: Rock and rhythm and blues with Testify.

■ Aug. 14: Lively folk songs with Shady Grove.

■ Aug. 21: Original jazz fusion with Electric Blue Sun.

■ Aug. 28: Swing with the Stardust Big Band.

PA concert Wednesday

The Dukes of Dabob will perform Dixieland jazz on Port Angeles City Pier from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

This is part of the free Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Concert on the Pier summer series which began last week.

Concerts are every Wednesday through Sept. 5 at City Pier.

City Pier is a no-smoking, no-skateboards, alcohol-free venue. Some chairs are available for the disabled and early arrivals.

PT concerts next month

The free Port Townsend Concerts on the Dock music series begins July 19 with The Better Half.

Fort Flagler concerts begin Saturday

The Friends of Fort Flagler’s summer concert series will kick off with the Julie Duke Band at Fort Flagler State Park’s Battery Bankhead, 10541 Flagler Road on Marrowstone Island, at 7 p.m. this coming Saturday, June 30.

The band plays blues, classic soul, funk and rock music.

Cost is $8 for adults, $15 for families and free for children 13 and younger.

The Fort Flagler concert schedule:

■ Eric Miller Band with American folk, rock, country and blues on July 7.

■ The Blackberry Bushes with bluegrass, Appalachian old-time, indie rock, jazz and pop on July 28.

■ Shady Grove with folk songs from the 1960s, including favorites of the Kingston Trio and the Brothers Four, on Aug. 4.

■ Chantilly Lace with oldies rock ‘n’ roll on Aug. 18.

■ The Winterlings with folk music on Sept. 1.
