The North Olympic Peninsula will explode with patriotic displays Monday.
Public fireworks displays are planned in Port Angeles, Port Townsend, Forks and Neah Bay.
Other communities plan music, picnics and other celebrations.
Here is a rundown of free or low-cost public events to celebrate on the Fourth of July — and, in Forks’ and Quilcene’s case, today as well.
Forks
Forks’ three-day Hearts for Heroes Old Fashioned Fourth of July began Friday and continues today.
From noon to 2 p.m. today will be a Kiddies Playday at Tillicum Park. A photo and craft show sponsored by the Far West Art League is set from noon to 4 p.m. at the Rainforest Arts Center, 35 N. Forks Ave., and a cribbage tournament is set at 6 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall, 110 S. Spartan Ave., where the entry fee is $6.
Heres the schedule for Monday.
■8 a.m. — Check-in for Grand Parade at the Forks Outfitters parking lot, 950 S. Forks Ave.
■8 a.m. to 10 a.m. — Elks’ annual 4th of July Breakfast at the Forks Elks Lodge, 941 Merchants Road. Cost is $8 for adults, $6 for children and seniors, and free for those 4 and younger.
■10 a.m. — Sign-ups and optional judging starts for the Kiddies Parade at the Peninsula College parking lot, 481 S. Forks Ave.
■10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Far West Art League art, Photo & Craft Show at the Rainforest Arts Center.
■10:30 a.m. — Final entries and judging begins for the Grand Parade.
■11:30 a.m. — Preparation for the Kiddies Parade at the Peninsula College parking lot.
■11:45 a.m. — Kiddies Parade begins at the Peninsula College parking lot.
■Noon — Forks Grand Parade begins from the Forks Outfitters parking lot.
■1 p.m. to 4 p.m. — Salmon Bake at Tillicum Park.
■2 p.m. — Music in the Park by Forkestra at Tillicum Park.
■2 p.m. to 5 p.m. — Forks Visitor Information Center open, 1411 S. Forks Ave.
■3 p.m. — Demolition Derby at Tillicum Park arena. Gates open at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10.
■Dusk — Fireworks display begins at Tillicum Park.
Port Angeles
In Port Angeles, the Fourth of July will begin at 10 a.m. with the Firecracker 5K/10K, for which patriotic attire is encouraged.
Prizes will be awarded for the most festive Independence Day-inspired attire, as well as for Fastest Woman, Fastest Man, Fastest Girl and Fastest Boy.
Registration and check-in will open at 8:30 a.m. at the Red Lion Hotel, 221 N. Lincoln St.
Entry is $25 for adults 21 and older, $10 for youths ages 7 to 20 and free for those 6 and younger. Proceeds will benefit the Hurricane Ridge Winter Sports Club and the Port Angeles Downtown Association.
The race route will begin and end on the Waterfront Trail in front of the Red Lion Hotel and Port Angeles CrabHouse Restaurant.
Youngsters participating will receive complimentary frozen desserts at the finish. Each participant who is 21 or older will receive a complimentary finisher beer.
Here is the schedule for the rest of the day:
■11 a.m. to 1 p.m. — Teen Talent Showcase at the City Pier.
■Noon to 5 p.m. — Kids Zone at The Gateway transit center, 123 E. Front St.
Activities include PA Rocks, face painting, a cupcake walk, a selfie station, a pancake artist, a workshop set up by Home Depot and an art table and chalk art.
■Noon to 5 p.m. — Vendor booths at The Gateway.
Farmers market goods, food, clothing and furniture will be for sale.
■Noon to 5 p.m. — Cabled Fiber and Yarn will host free community weaving at The Gateway.
Participants will use a traditional floor loom with a variety of textiles including yarn, wool fleece, rag strips and other fibers to create a unique series of panels that will be placed on display at City Hall.
■1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.— Farmstrong Band at City Pier.
■3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. — Buck Ellard Band at City Pier.
■8 p.m. to 10 p.m. — Camille Bloom Band at City Pier.
■6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. — Annual Fourth of July parade through downtown Port Angeles along Lincoln and First streets.
■10:15 p.m. — Fireworks display over Hollywood Beach.
The Port Angeles Yacht Club also will host a Fourth of July boat parade at noon Monday.
The parade will start at the yacht club, 1305 Marine Drive, travel up Ediz Hook and return to the club.
Port Townsend
In Port Townsend, the second annual Old School 4th of July is planned from 4 p.m. to 10:10 p.m. Monday at Fort Worden State Park, 200 Battery Way.
Event parking will be available on the parade grounds for a suggested donation of $5 per vehicle.
A Discover Pass will not be required to park on the parade grounds but will be required for all parking areas managed by State Parks.
■4 p.m. to dusk — Mini-golf.
■4 p.m. to dusk — Photo booth.
■4 p.m. to 8 p.m. — Old School Car Show.
■4:15 p.m. — National Guard Dixieland Jazz Band.
■5:15 p.m. — National anthem and 1,000 free root beer floats served.
■5:30 p.m. — Stars of Tomorrow winners.
■6 p.m. — Kevin Mason & the PT All-Stars.
■7 p.m. — Tug of war and a performance by the Unexpected Brass Band.
■7 p.m. to 10 p.m. — Hot air balloons.
■7:20 p.m. —Kevin Mason & the PT All-Stars, second set.
■8 p.m. — Pie-eating contest.
■8:20 p.m. — 50/50 raffle and awards.

■8:30 p.m. — Canon & the Lion of Judah.
■10:10 p.m. — Fireworks, launched from the beach near the Kitchen Shelter.
Centrum will host Fourth at the Fourth with fiddle concerts at McCurdy Pavilion at Fort Worden State Park
Musicians involved in the 40th annual Festival of American Fiddle Tunes will perform at 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Reserved seating tickets are $29, $23 and $16.

Free on the Fourth will be a performance of the Port Townsend Summer Band at the American Legion Hall, 209 Monroe St.
The performance will be from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Neah Bay
In Neah Bay, events begin with a bike parade at 11 a.m., with participants gathering at the Makah Museum at 10 a.m. to decorate their bikes.
After the parade, a street fair will begin at the Makah Tribal Senior Center.
At dusk will be the fire works show at Front Beach.
Sequim
Several celebrations are planned in Sequim: a fundraiser for disabled veterans, a free concert of patriotic music and a radio station open house.
The veterans fundraiser will be at the Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road.
Admission is free. Donations will be solicited. All donations will be given to the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 9, based in Port Angeles, which serves Clallam and Jefferson counties.
The fundraiser will include music and dancing, breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to noon, hot dogs in the afternoon, a flag-raising at 11:45 a.m. and U.S. flags for the first 200 youths to arrive.
Booths providing information and outreach for veterans will be manned at the event.
All veterans can receive a free raffle ticket for various gift cards to local Sequim and Port Angeles businesses and restaurants.

■1 p.m. to 2 p.m. — Buck Ellard (country music).
■2:15 p.m. to 3 p.m. — Na Hula O Wahine ‘Ilikea Hula (Hawaiian dance).

■5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. — Children of the Ravens (tribal dancing).
■5:45 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. — Martial arts demonstrations.
■6:15 p.m. to 8 p.m. — Cat’s Meow (big band).
The Sequim City Band will perform a concert at 3 p.m. Monday at the James Center for the Performing Arts bandshell at 563 N. Rhodefer Road at 3 p.m.
Event organizers encourage attendees to bring lawn chairs and sun protection.
Under the direction of Tyler Benedict, the band will showcase American patriotic pieces.
From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., the KSQM radio station at 577 Washington St. will hold a free Fourth of July open house, offering tours and root beer floats.
Vintage cars from the Sequim Valley Car Club will be on display in the parking lot.
A firetruck from Clallam County Fire District No. 3 will have its ladder up and flying the U.S. flag for the public to view up close.
Quilcene
A reception is set at the Quilcene Historical Museum, 151 E. Columbia St., from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. today and Monday and an Old Fashioned Fourth of July picnic and concert is planned Monday.
The Old Fashioned Fourth of July picnic and concert will be from noon to 5 p.m. outside the museum at the Linger Longer Stage.
The free concert will feature the Village Idiots, Brett Townsend and special guests.
