Fourth Friday Reading in Sequim to feature poet, short-story writer today

SEQUIM — Fourth Friday Readings, a free monthly event celebrating local writers, returns to Rainshadow Coffee Roasting Co., 157 W. Cedar St., today.

Community members are invited to arrive at 6 p.m. to choose seats and order beverages for the 6:30 p.m. reading, to feature essayist, poet and short-story writer Heidi Hansen and poet-songwriter Greg Houghton.

The pair will give readings inspired by their passions, which include movies and theater for Hansen and falconry and surfing for Houghton.

Then comes the open-mic section, when other writers can step up to give five-minute readings. They are encouraged to rehearse their work beforehand, arrive early and sign in at the door.

Fourth Friday Readings wrap by 8 p.m.

“Our intention is to inspire all writers, from beginners to published authors and poets. Everyone is welcome,” said organizer Ruth Marcus.
