PORT ANGELES – Port Angeles attorney Brent Basden has announced his intent to file for the new third Clallam County Superior Court bench.
Basden, who grew up in Clallam County, joins attorneys Curtis G. Johnson, Craig Miller and Brooke Taylor in the race for the judgeship. All but Basden filed Monday for the August primary election.
Clallam County commissioners approved the $131,988-a-year position May 15. The winner will join Superior Court Judges Ken Williams and George Wood.
In announcing his candidacy, Basden said he has handled both civil and criminal cases and served as a pro tem Superior Court commissioner. He said his practice has focused on domestic relations for the past 13 years.
He graduated from Port Angeles High School in 1984, cum laude from Brigham Young University in 1990, and from the BYU law school in 1994.
In law school, he served on the law review and was managing editor his final year. He also received a faculty award for meritorious achievement and distinguished service.
Basden is a member of the board of the Clallam County Pro Bono Lawyers Association, a group that furnishes civil legal services to low-income clients.
