AGNEW — A 21-year-old Sequim man was cited for inattention Tuesday after a four-vehicle chain-reaction crash on U.S. Highway 101 just west of Barr Road blocked the highway for more than an hour and caused only minor injuries among the drivers.
The crash blocked both lanes of traffic, which was detoured to Old Olympic Highway west to Kitchen-Dick Road for more than an hour shortly before 10 a.m.
Three people were treated at Olympic Medical Center and were discharged, said spokeswoman Bobby Beeman.
The State Patrol cited Nathan David Fuentes for inattention.
The State Patrol gave this account:
Fuentes’ 1989 Honda four-door struck the back of a 1986 Mazda pickup truck driven by Michael Dean Lefavor, 40, of Port Angeles, who was waiting to turn left into a recycling facility.
Lefavor’s vehicle then collided with an eastbound 2001 Honda Civic driven by Michael Robert Perry, 40, of Port Angeles.
Perry’s Honda Civic then struck a 1995 International Box Van driven by Richard Gary Storch, 66, of Port Angeles.
The SSRq89 Honda and Mazda pickup came to rest in the center of the highway, while the Honda Civic and the van settled on the shoulder of the eastbound lane.
The box van received $1,000 in damage while the other three vehicles were totally destroyed, the State Patrol said.
Fuentes sustained head lacerations, a sore neck and knuckles.
Lefavor suffered bruising, right leg and back soreness.
Perry was reported to be bruised.
All three were taken to OMC.
Storch complained of a sore back but was not transported to a hospital, the State Patrol said.
No alcohol or drugs were suspected in the crash, the State Patrol reported, and all were wearing seat belts. All vehicles were towed from the scene.
