PORT ANGELES — A special three-day filing period for positions that don’t have any candidates for the Nov. 8 general election ends today.
Four positions remain on Clallam County’s general election ballot that no one filed for during the regular filing week that ended last Friday.
No one stepped forward Thursday to fill them.
The special filing period will continue at 8:30 a.m. today and end for good at 4:30 p.m. at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St. in Port Angeles.
If no one files, the position will be stricken from the general election ballot, the incumbent will stay in office, and the position will come up for election in 2013.
If the incumbent resigns, the commission or board on which he or she sat will appoint a member, and the position will be up for election in 2013.
The following seats still lack any candidates:
■ Quillayute Prairie Fire District No. 6, Commissioner Position No. 1, incumbent E. Richard Chesmore Jr.
■ Black Diamond Water District, Commissioner District No. 1, incumbent Daniel D. Kauffman.
■ Quillayute Valley Park and Recreation District, Commissioner No. 2, incumbent Ron Anderson.
■ Quillayute Valley Park and Recreation District, Commissioner No. 3, incumbent Jim Smith.
On Wednesday, the first day of the extended filing period, Juanita Weissenfels filed for the vacant Forks City Council Position No. 1 seat, while Gordon Gibbs filed for the Quillayute Valley Park and Recreation Commissioner No. 5 position.
If three or more candidates file for a position, they all advance to the Aug. 16 primary, and the top two vote-getters will head to the Nov. 8 general election.
There are 50 positions up for election Nov. 8.
