OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — This is the final full week of road work for the season on U.S. Highway 101 around Lake Crescent.
On Nov. 19, Strider Construction Inc. of Bellingham the contractor will conduct final cleanup and sign removal with possible short delays in the 12-mile, $27.5 million project.
This week, four-hour delays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. are planned on Monday to remove a rock hazard, said Penny Wagner, Olympic National Park spokeswoman.
“Due to the unpredictable nature of the rock removal operation, a four-hour delay may also be needed Tuesday and Wednesday depending on the progress,” Wagner said.
During the delays, travelers to and from the western side of the peninsula can use state highways 112 and 113 as an alternate route, Wagner said.
Highway 101 eastbound from Forks will remain open up to the turn for Barnes Point where Lake Crescent Lodge, NatureBridge, and the trailheads are located.
Highway 101 westbound from Port Angeles will be open up to mile marker 232 at East Beach Road.
Guardrail installation will continue west of the Lake Crescent Lodge area between mileposts 224 and 228 during the four-hour delays, Wagner said.
A pilot car will guide traffic.
Drivers also should continue to expect half-hour delays Monday through Friday during work hours. Work is no longer restricted to two hours after sunrise to two hours before sunset.
The contractor is in its second of three seasons of work in a project to rehabilitate the 12 miles of highway.
Construction seasons are from March through mid-November.
