PORT ANGELES — Four consultants were selected Wednesday for interviews in March about installing satellite sewer systems throughout Clallam County.
“This is a regional issue, not just a county issue,” said Clallam County Public Utility District Commissioner Hugh Haffner.
“It could help Jefferson County, too.”
A satellite sewer system is one whose owner or operator is different from the owner or operator of the final treatment and discharge system for the sewage.
The systems are an alternative to septic systems and running costly sewer lines from sewer treatment plants inside cities to rural areas.
A group that includes Clallam County Public Utility District, Clallam County and the Lower Elwha Klallam and Jamestown S’Klallam tribes is studying the systems to help solve development and environmental problems in Carlsborg, Blyn and other areas.
The four consultants to be interviewed March 2 are Brown & Caldwell, Parametrix, Tetra Tech/KCM and Berger/Abam.
