SEQUIM — The Sequim School District has added an additional forum to explain to the public the reason it has placed a $154 million construction bond measure on the April 22 special election ballot.
The forum is set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Sequim High School library at 601 N. Sequim Ave.
Officials decided to add a fourth forum to the three that have already been conducted, said spokeswoman Patsene Dashiell, after 65 people showed up for the April 8 forum.
Because of the interest expressed, “we felt there might be more people interested in coming,” Dashiell said.
Tours of the facilities also can be arranged.
“We encourage people if they are interested in taking a look at the facilities to call the district office at 360-582-3260” and make an appointment for a tour, Dashiell said.
Several formal and informal tours have been conducted in the past few weeks.
The bonds would fund construction of a new elementary school, an extensive remodel and renovation of the high school and two existing elementary schools, and build a new athletic complex.
If approved, the bonds would add approximately $1.70 per $1,000 of assessed value to the property tax bills of property owners in the district, which has a total assessed property value of $3.7 billion.
The bond would add $425 to the annual property tax bill of the owner of the average $250,000 home.
