CHIMACUM — Methamphetamine and marijuana are prominent in Jefferson County, but alcohol causes more concern for area health officials.
Community members, health officials and law and justice officials gathered Tuesday for a second forum on substance addiction.
About 100 people came to the all-day event at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer at 45 Redeemer Way.
One of the reasons alcohol poses such a danger is that people can die after ingesting too much alcohol or even from withdrawal, officials said.
Such was the case in February when 16-year-old Shane Luther died of acute alcohol intoxication following a teen drinking party.
“Alcohol can get you coming and going,” Dr. Jerry Schnell, a Port Townsend resident and former Seattle University addictions professor, said.
