OLYMPIA — The state Department of Health has revoked the medical license of a former Sherwood Assisted Living nursing assistant who was convicted of the second-degree rape of his girlfriend in Clallam County Superior Court last year.
Corean O. Barnes, 27, was convicted on two counts of second-degree rape in Clallam County last June.
His credential to practice as a certified nursing assistant was permanently revoked by the Department of Health on Feb. 4.
The state Health Department announced disciplinary actions of 26 health care providers on Tuesday, including two on the North Olympic Peninsula.
Barnes lived in Sequim and was working for Sherwood Assisted Living when he was arrested on a rape investigation in August of 2008. He was accused of raping his girlfriend twice on Aug. 15.
He was convicted of the two counts by a Clallam County jury in May 2009.Clallam County Superior Court Judge Ken Williams sentenced Barnes to 119 months — one month short of 10 years — on June 25, 2009.
The state Department of Health requested a written statement from Barnes about the rape conviction last August, to which Barnes did not respond.
Barnes was also convicted of third-degree malicious mischief in Clallam County District Court in April 2008 and other misdemeanors in Kitsap County.
He had misdemeanor convictions of violating a no-contact order and driving with a suspended or revoked license in Port Orchard Municipal Court in August 2007, and a conviction of driving under the influence in Kitsap County District Court in May 2008.
“Based on the findings of fact, the Secretary of Health concludes that respondent cannot be rehabilitated, nor can he regain the ability to practice with reasonable skill and safety,” a presiding officer wrote in the order.
The Department of Health’s disciplinary authority said it considered the gravity of the alleged misconduct, past disciplinary record, lack of moral fitness to practice in the profession and heinousness of the conduct when it sanctioned Barnes.
