FORKS — A two decade long community dream — opening of the Quillayute Valley Aquatic and Recreation Center — is quickly becoming a reality as local leaders secure start-up and operational funding.
Center officials said the community is energized after receiving a recent $75,000 grant from Aberdeen-based E.K. & Lillian F. Bishop Foundation.
“When we heard from the Bishop Foundation, it really gave our morale a boost,” Barb Gronseth, Quillayute Valley Park and Recreation District Board chairwoman, said. “The community is really excited and energized, and we are well on our way.”
So far, proponents have collected more than $100,000 of the $150,000 needed for start-up costs.
Donation jars, engraved tile sales, charter memberships and pledges are under way to raise the remaining $50,000 for what they will call Wet End Pool.
