FORKS — The heritage of the West End will be celebrated with nine days of activities during the annual Forks Hickory Shirt/Heritage Days 2002 that kicks off today.
The celebration begins with a Forks Chamber of Commerce Logging and Mill Tour at the Forks Visitor Center, 1411 S. Forks Ave., and a contest based on hickory shirts — work shirts commonly used by loggers.
This year, the celebration also salutes Rayonier Inc.’s 75th anniversary.
More than 500 retired or former Rayonier employees have been invited to participate in an Oct. 9 round table discussion at 6:30 p.m. at Bank of America.
“They will be sharing stories about Rayonier and the history of logging in the area,” said Christi Baron, an organizer of the event and a member of the West End Business and Professional Association.
Other events also highlight the logging industry, including a photography display of historical photos at Peninsula College’s West End campus.
