Forks vehicle licensing office to close in July

FORKS — The Forks vehicle licensing office will formally close July 13, Clallam County Auditor Patty Rosand announced Monday.

Sandy Williams, the licensing subagent serving Forks, will conduct business July 10 as her last day.

The office is only open a few days a week, so the formal closing day is different from the last business day.

Williams was on a personal vacation Monday and could not be reached for comment.

The office, 502 E. Division St., issues vehicle and boat tags.

It is a private business under the supervision of the Clallam County auditor.

She conducts an average of 7,500 transactions annually, Rosand said.

It is a separate office from the Department of Licensing office, which is run by the state.

The licensing office, 41 Bogachiel Way, was up for closure in light of state budget cuts, but in May the department announced it would stay open.

“The absence of her business will be felt in the community,” Rosand said in a news release about the vehicle licensing office.

Rosand said she would evaluate the need for a subagent for those services in Forks and would determine whether it is feasible to replace the business.

The evaluation process could take several months, Rosand said.

Until that time, citizens needing to buy license tabs can do so online at www.dol.wa.gov or go to Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., in Port Angeles.

Title transfers and other transactions requiring signatures will need to be done in person at either the courthouse or Sequim vehicle and vessel licensing, Rosand said.

The Sequim vehicle and vessel licensing office is at 1001 E. Washington St., Suite 5.
