FORKS — The Quillayute Valley School District board meets tonight for the first time since two student walkouts at Forks High School over disagreements with school administrators.
The School Board is set to face public concerns tonight, said district Superintendent Frank Walter on Monday.
The meeting starts at 6 p.m. at district headquarters, 411 S. Spartan Ave., Forks.
The board will mainly discuss public concerns expressed at its March 15 meeting, when dozens of community members complained about a variety of issues ranging from parking fairness to administrator conduct at a basketball game in Centralia.
Walter has drafted a set of responses to the concerns expressed at the last board meeting and is expected to discuss them tonight.
Those topics include student parking issues, fairness of rule enforcement on high school students, and an incident at a Spartan basketball game in Centralia last month in which a student was given a multi-day suspension after insulting the principal.
“We have a School Board that is really committed to school empowerment,” Walter said Monday.
“This is a matter of getting organized with good answers for [parents].”
The School Board met Monday night in an executive session to finalize the information Walter and board members will be delivering at tonight’s meeting.
He said it is up to the School Board if that information will be presented on paper or orally.
